Why is bodyweight training so great?

Bodyweight training can mean anything from a press up to a handstand – basically any exercise where you use the weight of your own body as resistance rather than weights.

Although one of the main advantages of bodyweight training is that you use your body to do it (ie no equipment necessary!), like most things in life, if you want to get the most out of your training then the right tools will get you there much quicker.

Bodyweight training has seen a spike in popularity recently thanks to the wide circulation of YouTube videos of fitness superstars performing highly skilled and hugely impressive callisthenics moves like planches, one-armed pull ups and handstand press ups – the ultimate party tricks for fitness enthusiasts!

But bodyweight training is more than just a party piece. It also offers something that weight training doesn’t – the gradual development of skill and progression that provides more stimulation and challenge than simply adding a few more kilos onto a bar.

Although the internet-famous athletes may make it look easy, mastering these kinds of moves takes time, lots of training and lots of patience. Equipment like parallette bars, dip stations and ab wheels have been specifically designed to speed up the process.
